I was thinking this the other day. E28's are given away here and I thought I could get the same 535 in E28 style and thrash it all the time, something I would not do to my E34. A friend of mine is giving away a 1984 E28 dad owned since new, has a steering noise and being a BMW thinks it will cost to much to repair. Maybe I should grab it.

528i is probably a better car to buy than a 535i in aust. because it seems that the only manual 535i's in AUSTRALIA are M535i which are 10 000 i got my 528i manual for 2300 with RWC and 6 months rego.
for those that don't know our 528i is a M30B28 high compression engine 98 ron fuel (no cat) which is as fast as a manual US e28 535i with CAT.

Yep, I'm with you Rob.. We talked about the M30 528i and both agreed that it is a doozy. Watch for Rust in a miriad of places:
    1. Door bottoms (even with clear drain holes!)
    2. Inside bonnet where rubber seal from engine bay meets bonnet (windscreen end)
    3. Around the rear lights (seals perish allowing water to sit and rust the metal)
    4. Bottom of rear panel just behind the rear door bottom.
    5. Battery box and subframe under battery box.
Also watch for cracked dashes (they all cracked).

A great car though. The M5 that we got out here has the full body kit and looks, IMHO, fantastic.
    Cheers
