where do these things like to rust? anybody here familiar with e28's?
Open the two front doors, look at the electrical connections that go into the doors at the hinges.Lift up the rubber boots and there may be some rust there. Also at the door drain holes at the bottom.Remove the plastic covers inside the front wheel arches and wash in there, it tends to gather a lot of crap over the years. Under the trunk seal. That's it.
My 83 528e was starting to rust under the trunk lid lower edge. Do not remmember anyothe rplace. Now my old 2002, different story!

I've got an '87 520i. Rust tends to appear on the fenders at the edge of the wheel wells, and the tank filler neck rusts and leaks. I fix the fenders once a year with a paint touch-up kit. Haven't done anything about the filler neck yet.

I'm really loving my 528e that was given to me. It's not an M5, but it's got character.
