Default Are E34 Climate control modules interchangeable

Are IHKR-E34 [p/n 6411-8390122.4 or 8367951]climate control modules interchangeable or are they specific to each model. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do we look like we have databases of part numbers in our heads.

Good question (in principle) would be better if you had posted pics or at least URLs of what parts you mean...

All that said, around here you never know- someone might know..

As it happens, I know the answer to that, or at least partially.

The control module in my E34 has just gone haywire, and i've been trying to find a replacement. Mine is part number 64 11 8 390 174, but the old part number 64 11 1 390 812 will also work. I happened to find another unit from a 540i, part number 64 11 8 390 175 (ie. just one different from mine), but it doesn;t work properly, it appears to be calibrated very differently, and it's very hard to calibrate the temperature properly.

My mechanic just rang a few minutes to tell me that he found a second hand one (new ones cost $AUD1000!!!!!!) and I'm just about to head down there to try it.

So, as a general rule, from what I have read and what I have seen, I don't beleive that they are interchangeable.

    Regards

    John

According to a seller on ebay, they are supposedly interchangable. He's a PowerSeller and seems to sell them on a regular basis. I hope that he is correct because I just bought one from him. If you want to look it up the item number is 8070265925. If it doesnt work, he has a 30 day warranty. I'll let you know how mine works out... if it is in fact the problem to start with...

Is this a discussion about whether you can interchange the manual climate control for the fully automatic board? I would imagine that it would be very difficult, if not impossible.

There are about 10 different types of Fully Automatic Climate Control Control Modules made for the E34, and they almost all appear to be slightly different from each other. To make matters even more difficult, some of the units have a new part number and an old part number, but the parts themselves seem to be identical.

    Hi Cableface,

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes. As I said earlier, I did try to use a unit from a 540 in my M5, and it didn't work properly. The part number was almost identical, only out by one digit. I was lucky enough to find the correct part for the M5 today, and it works perfectly.

    Regards

Will do, John. If it does work, it's certainly worth it. As you said, these things are expensive new. I should know something in a week or so.
