I always place stands right under these rails...Originally Posted by JMI
I could use a picture/diagram for E34 535 jack points. Just changed transmission filter and I'm concerned about jack placement on the unibody construction.
Placed the jacks stands under a "rail" that runs fore and aft on both sides about 1 foot from the outside bottom of car (inward) and the fore/aft distance is approximately from the rear of the front tire to the front of the rear tire. This "rail" is about 1.5 to 2 inchs wide.
The jack stands were place just behind where the "rails" starts in the front. Have a feeling this is the wrong place, but got away with it this time.
Any pics/diagrams?

oh my gosh! That is great, one effective way to show jack placement.

Thanks for the pic, I've seen it before. It is very good but it is also not a 535. Was hoping there was somthing similar for a 535.Originally Posted by SchnellE34

agreed.
although!!!!
the jackstand spots arent very jackstand friendly, so i put a block of 1/4" aluminum between the jack and the car to even out the pressure and prevent slippage onto the body.
I also dont completely trust using a floor jack on the rear diff.
