So after washing my 1991 535i tonight, I decided to go for a short spin in my nice, clean car. All of the sudden, the car goes "BONG" and I look down to see the message "Lic plate light." Now I take great care of my car and always put a lot of TLC into my maintenance. But there is no way I'm going to go around licking the lights! That is just asking a bit too much. I know Germans can be anal and demanding...but that is just taking it WAY TOO FAR! If they want to lick there lights, good for them!

If you are talking about knockin boots in the back seat... then I have finally been properly diagnosed.

That message is because in some countries its an instant fine for having an unlit licence plate. In NZ it's a reason to fail your warrant (and then the bulb costs $3 plus $45 retesting). It's not because it's picky, but because it cares (especially because I am sure it knows how much it is costing you already).
