    Default burnin oil ques

the ol' girl popped up a low oil level on me
i went to check it and sure enough its low

exhaust gasket is broken i have an exhaust leak
    somewhere...

could that have caused enough heat for the HG
to fail at some point and the engine started burning
    oil?

the outside of the motor is dry so i'm thinking it has
    to be burnin' the oil

Exhaust gasket can't make the head gasket blow. An overheating cat can cause an overheat, but I assume you would notice that gauge go up.

What grade of oil are you using? And how fast are you losing it? if its just a small amount getting by the valve guides and/or oil rings, switching to a heavier oil may take care of it.
