Can we have a pic please? Would make an assesment easier for all I think.
Hi All,
I was rear-ended Wed evening, in Bronxville, NY (I live in NYC). Trunk lid bent up a few inches, metal bit below that crumpled, one trunk light broken, bumber all scraped up.
My insurance company tells me it's $2600 in damage. Question.
Is this the sort of thing that should be done at a BMW dealership or could an independent shop do it? I use and like Little Garage in Queens...
Any other thoughts?
Thanks, Thanos

Freude am Fahren - Damn straight!
ask around at the dealer and the indy who they use for body work.
Gone but not forgotten
Agreed, a picture would make it easier to see if there is any chassis damage and rougly how much it's going to cost. I would say get it done at a BMW Dealership, atleast they know exacly what they're doing. Well, I should hope so anyway.![]()

Sorry to be so lame, but I can't seem to make my 1.2 mB pic any smaller than 132kB (on an Apple G4). Any suggestions?

Around here, the dealerships don't do any bodywork as far as I know... there is usually a local indy place that only does paint/body work to which the dealership sends their cars.
I'd ask the parts guy at the dealer like Paul said. I'd bet there is a place in the area that is known for doing a good job on BMW's, but they will not be the cheapest place in town! Don't let the insurance company tell you where to have it fixed - I don't think their recommended shops are necessarily good places, just places that agree to lower rates to get insurance company business.

Thank you both, Robin and Paul. Here is a picture, I hope:

I live in NYC and work in Bronxville, so I will phone a dealer up near where I work tomorrow.

PS My battery died because I forgot to take out the trunk lights, and the truunk does not close...I now get a CODE message when I try to use the radio. Any ideas??
T
linky no work
Punch in the radio code. its on a small wallet card in your purse like thing that has your owners manual. You will have to get the serial number off the radio and have someone at a dealer give you the code if you don't have it. They will often peform this service for free if you are polite =).
P.S. the link is dead, says "sesion has ended"
