    Default 540 Air feed damage

I have a 1994 540 which has developed a 'cold running' problem. The main air feed pipe into the manifold is getting worn down by the engine fan, which is causing the engine to idle erraticly when cold.
I've replaced the pipe and am continually having to apply gaffer tape to remedy the problem! The car is fine after the engine has warmed up, but the fan wears a new hole in the pipe within a few months.
Is this a common problem on this model? The fan shows little sign of wear at all, and the engine never overheats.

    TIA

Sure, but if your water pump has weak bearings, the fan could be tilting into the intake under load. Unlikely since the thing turns clockwise, but you never know until you check.

Have you checked your motor mounts?

my fan has a lot of room before it would hit the intake tube, like said check the motor mounts and make sure you are installing the tube correctly.
