I picked up 2 mpg with my chip ( m20). My idle is a bit rougher but overall it was well worth the switch.
Saw all this stuff about chips and I had a few questions. First, does the eat chip damage fuel efficency? Second is there one for a 1995 525i? Finally if not is there a chip that is at least close in quality for my car?

I saw something about having to use 91+ octane with it, is that true?
Edit - Currently use 89 since that is what the car recommends

My chip reccomended 91 but I run 89 and have not noticed any pinging in 6k miles

I installed one in my 540 and could not be happier nearly one year later. It feels smoother and stronger down low where it used to feel kind of lazy. Yes, in my case I have to use 91 octane. I think it may vary by application due to differing compression ratios etc. But, even though I use 91 I still spend less becuase I get far better milage with the chip. before the chip I got 15mpg in town and 21mpg on the highway. Now I get 19 in town and 26+ on the highway. Sometimes better some times worse depending how hard I push the loud pedal. I did get 26mpg from Albequrque to Phoenix, which as you know is up and over the contental divide. So that is a decent average test. The chip makes my V8's milage not too far from that of the stock sixes.
I use 93 octane with the EAT chip but used it before the chip due to pinging. I'm pretty sure the owner's manual calls for higher octane for the M50 because of the higher compression ratio. In my case it gets the same mpg but the performance is greatly improved and well worth it. I also switched to synthetic oil with no ill side effects (leaks) it idles so smooth sometimes I can't tell if it's running sitting at a stoplight. At 170,000 miles it runs as strong as ever with almost no oil consumption between oil chnges. I recommend the EAT chip 100%, it makes the car ALOT more fun to drive, don't leave home without it.
Yes, Nitrous,,,,,you can get an EAT chip for your 94 525ia,,,,,log on to Marks site,,,and it will guide you to wich chip to get. It makes a difference on the 95's,,,as to when it was manufactured,,,ie,,,early 95,,(non EWS-II), or later 95,,,,, the email link you want, to ask questions on before ordering is
mark@dsylva-tech.ca
You cant beat the EAT chip,,,,,,the best bang for the buck, there is.

Does anyone know how much power is gained with an EAT chip for the M60 4.0L (horsepower and torque gains)?
I can't decide between EAT and Conforti (Turner motorsport).
Apparantly the conforti max gains are 19hp @3000 and torque is 33lb-ft @3000.
I have heard the EAT is as good if not better, and since its $50 less than conforti I am considering it.
no dyno sheets to compare as far as I know.
