I recently purchansed a 1991 535im, which should be on the rode soon. It came with stock 15" baskets running 225/60/r15 << Same as my 93 525ia. I got me a set of baskets from a 96 7 series this week. They currently have 235/60/r16 conti's with 75% tread. My question is will they rub?
no

can't use the 235s, too tall and too wide, i ran 225/55/16 on my e38 rims and had no problems, that size is good for not throwing the speedo off too but you want slim sidewalls, if they bow out too far they will rub the strut tube on the front and wear out the tire quickly i've seen it, i ran kumho 712s on my 535 and loved them they cleared the struts fine and had good wet/dry traction while being cheep, they were the only tire that i liked enough to buy a 2nd set and will buy a set for my e30 when i upgrade the suspension
all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it

I am on 712s too, though in 255/40/17 and they get a thumbs up from me. My next set will be 712s but in 275Originally Posted by winfred
