Wonder if anyone can help a newbie with a bit of a problem?
I'm half-way through removing an M50 engine from a late 95' 525i that I'm going to put into my E30 Cab.
Getting the engine out is the easy part but I'm having problems with the EWS system.
Q1. After an hour of scratching my head & getting nothing but splinters in my fingers, just how do you get the small loop aerial off the ignition key barrel?????
Q2. Where are the EWS II module & the TX/RX module fitted in the car?
Hope someone out there can help.
Many thanks

Is the donor a US car? Doesn't sound like it.
Anyway, the ring antenna usually breaks as it comes off -- not that expensive to replace, however. Just slides right off once the plastic cover is out of the way. And it might behoove you to find a US M50TU harness/dme so that you don't have to worry about EWS.

Hi Whit.
Sorry, I should have said donor is a Euro car (easier to get hold of over here in England).
I'm not too worried about cracking the plastic surround but I was getting a bit paranoid about damaging the actual antenna.
Thanks for your input. It's much appreciated.

Sure thing. But the antenna will still *probably* break. I know it's possible to get them off in one piece, but I've personally not done it yet (and I've removed a few of them).

Typical is'nt it. You spend hours on a problem & finally get a half decent answer (thanks guys).
Then someone comes along with the proper solution. See the link below.

Take the barrel out & the loop antenna should just slide off the back undamaged.
HTH someone else out there.
