Default Brake Caliper Identification -- Bill R chime in

OK, I got the brake calipers and carriers from the Bavarian joint selling on eBay. The fronts look fine and correct, they have cast in numbers on the caliper 80/28/302 which I take to mean 302 rotors and 28mm wide.

The rears are the ones that I need identified. The casting numbersfor them is 38/10 on the outside. Of course they are dirty which is to be expected and I have not looked for stamped in part numbers. Are the part numbers cast into the calipers/carriers?

By the way, the point here is to do a slight upgrade to 302/28mm front 540/7xx brakes and 300/20 vented on the rear versus the 300/10 non vented on rear (540/7xx rear)

    Appreciate any help.

Default The rear caliper you have is the wrong one....

it should be marked 20 for the width of the vented rotor as you suspect. The only differences between the 525/535 rear brakes and the 540/M5 rear brakes is the opening between the piston and the outside fangs for the outside brake pad, as well as the carrier having a wider opening to accept the wider rotor.

can you fit a vented rear rotor in the carrier? how about in the caliper with brake pads temp fitted?

I've run lot's of track days without vented rear rotors without a problem.
