    just get the whole 2.8 bottom end and put your head on it, you'd need the pistons/rods anyway.....

    Wait if the stroke is a half inch more won't i need shorter rods? if i don't won't the piston hit the head?

    So if right now i got a m52 crank 2.8liter itl fit perfactly in my non vanos m50?

    As for the 523i, VERY good question. WHY is it less power and tq than the old m50? That is indeed very interesting. Is it simply de-tuned for economy reasons?
    My understanding of the 523i/323i (2.5) is that they use the ram pipes from the 2.8 motor which are smaller in diameter. Why? Who knows. Please feel free to call me a goose if i'm off the mark...
