i guess it's ok. don't think there's anything wrong in exposing it to air. it's exposed to air once it's in the cooling sistem, ain't it? anyway it's good to flush the sistem once every 2 years or so.
I'm about to change the coolant in my 540. I have a gallon of BMW coolant that I cracked opened about 9 or 10 months ago (not mixed with water yet). I'm curios with how long does coolant keep once opened? Also, I would like to know if it's ok to go ahead and use the coolant I have or should I buy new? Thanks.

At $22-30 per gallon, or at least that's what it cost in the San Francisco Bay Area, I would use it. Why waste it?
Then again, I found Saab coolant is Valvoline Zerex G-48, "blue" and at $12 per gallon, guess what I'm using!
That's how I tell if it's a good vintage for coolant.
Hmmmm soft to the palette, but yet entertaining to the bowel.
