Not sure 0w40 best oil
for older BMWs.
I have seen some concern that Mobil 1 0w40 is actually a thin 40 weight, It is even called a "35" weight by some. I know it shears down in viscosity quickly according to my used oil analysis. Some believe that older engines, inlcuding BMWs needed a heavier oil. Not sure.
I was using Mobil 1 0w40 and now using at least Mobil 1 5w40 weight. Even considering other Synthetic 5w40 oils such as Castrol, Pennzoil and Valvoline. Perhaps even 15w40 mobil 1 in the summer.
Just my observations at this point.
