Oil change questions

Whats up guys. I am about to perform my first oil change in my 530i and just have a few questions. Are these filters alright?

Also, are there any tips or hints to do the job right. When I take out the filter, do I just slip in the new one or do I have to rub oil on the top of the new filter before placing it in? I appreciate any comments.
(By the way, my search function hasn't worked in about 1 month, or I probably wouldn't be asking this question. Every time I click on the search bar, I get "This page cannot be dispalyed at this particular time." Go figure.

Should be.... standard disclaimer about buying stuff of ebay... have you seen what BMA's price on this is?

I like to fill the can with oil once the filter is in... just so I avoid the never ending air pocket... as for if it's the "right" way to do it... who knows.

Thanks for responding. No, I haven't looked at BMA's price. I'll check it out. Also, what kind of oil should I use 10w-30 synthetic?? Any particular brand of oil? Also how many quarts??

8 quarts of M1 0W-40. make sure you have the new style filter before you order, if not you will have to order the conversion dildo thing too.

Grab at least 1 extra quart for a top off during your 5000-7500 mile interval. I found once you need to ad that quart its getting real soon to change time and I seem to use more. Thats the time to source the filter and oil again.

Find your oil, pop the top of the filter canister and if the filter has a plastic end it's the new style, metal end is old style. The filter comes with a new rubber O ring that you replace and coat in oil, it also comes with a new copper crush washer for the drain bolt.

not at all, the first time I did mine I took off the filter, drained the oil and then discovered that my fresh oil had to run with the dirty old style filter....that sucked!

Haha. That happened once at school. We changed the cooking teacher's oil in his e36 328i, but we couldn't get the filter cap off. He never knew about it though lol.
