    Default levelling headlights:

looks like the bucket on the left side is definetely broken. Is there a motor at the back of the elipsoid or is there a motor that moves the bulb.

Either way it has to be replaced, and I'm wondering if I can even get one...or two.

Number 21. Do you think it's still avail? Still $106 bucks?

I was wondering if I got some hella smileys could my adjusting motor just plug into it or is mine a special bucket.

    thanks in advance.

Usually only the Headlight Adjuster Socket breaks. The complete dip light is moved, see the black plastic sockets which hold it. Maybe they are just broken and the headlight is loose.
The motor can be of course still ordered. But if it does not work: check first if you get power to it. If yes, disassemble it and see if you get it working again. Sometimes it even helps if you switch it many times from one side to the other end, so that the motor get's 'free' again.
You can also use a motor from an E32, same headlights as E34.

One additional thing: the difference in non adjustable and adjustable are how many of these plastic sockets hold the headlight.
See in the parts catalog and compare the 2 systems.
Usually all Hella lights come with headlight adjustment possibility and even the aftermarket ones, because this is required by law in Europe, unless you have LAD, where the rear of the car is always adjusted.

The question is, do you have the sytem already or not?
If you only bought new headlights, then you need of course the retrofit system. And that is expensive.

thanks. I think a little more than the backing is broken.

The stealer will have to order all this from Euro right? I don't think the westfalia tow system was avail in the states and thus the headlight adjusting motor.

are E30 smileys compatible with E34? I saw some on the bay I was going to bid on .

    thanks again

My tourer is Euro spec with OEM towing system and OEM headlight adjusters.

I made every effort to avoid a crash, but crashed anyway into a inattentive female, and now I am worried that I won't be able replace what's broken, or it's going to take months to get the right parts or I might have to compromise or a combination thereof.

What I'd like to do is have her insurance replace what's broken, but have my body/repair shop put hella elipsoid with city lights (smiley's) in my buckets. If her wreck caused my adjusters to break, they need to replace the whole shabang

E30 headlights do not fit on E34. Size is same, but the points where they are fixed/fitted are different in location.
Look out for some for E34 and/or E32.
On my website under David750.de is an installation instruction for such system, multilanguage, about 25 pages.

O.K. you have the system in place.
I do not think the motor has been damaged.
Remove the complete set and inspect it.
Disassemble all and see it. Only then you can further investigate what you really need.
That is a matter of 10 minutes to remove the headlights complete.
