uhhhh the e30 m3 did have a 2.3 4 banger and a 323i e36 does have a 2.5 6 banger, the italian e30 m3 had a 2.0 version of the s14 due to tax reasons and the evo bad ass version was 2.5

ebay is full of these things. I saw an E30 M3 - 2.3L engine...okeeey (actual wider M3 body tho), then i saw a 323i (2.5L engine in descriptions) man...

all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it
yes, it was a 4 cyl but not 2.3 but 2.7L
Edit: and if 323i had 2.5L, then what did 325 have? 2.8L? Then 328i had 3.2L? I know the numbers are rounded off and do not represent ACTUAL engine size down to a ccm but what you are saying is a bit too much of a rounding off, i think.

the m72 v12 is/was marked on cars as the x50, ie, the bmw e31 850 was called an 850 through all the years despite them eventually going from 5.0l to 5.4l, same with the 750 between the e32 and e38 changes despite the increase of .4 litres. the same is true for the 323i, 528i, 328i displacement.

hmm ok my bad, wasn't aware of the 2.3 at all. I thought E30 M3 was a 2.7
But you gotta admit, the e28 in the link i posted is NOT an m3!![]()
323 was produced they didn't have a 330 and bmw marketing didn't like the idea of a 325 and a 328, they felt there wasn't enough difference between them if they called them that so the 2.5 liter sedan was sold as the 323 designation and the 2.8 was the 328. Later when the 330 came out they changed the designation on the 323 to 325.. same displacement, but now there seemed like a bigger difference in engines

08/88 535i e34 M30+miller MAF, 'stiens, tints & teeth!
One of them is silver / Widebody and has the 4 cyl M3 Motor in it. I am trying to get him to sell it to me. It would be a sweet Garage queen weekend toy.
He also just bought a red one -90- from one of his other customers. This was a car the customer brought in to him to put a 3.2L M Roadster engine and drive train in it. He did Cams/Headwork/Chips/Exhaust on it for the previous owner. It dyno's around 400hp. I just love the way that engine looks in the bay!
He is going to post both of them on his website - I will let you know when. JT
Romus,
The guys here know what they're talking about. It's sort of common knowledge too. The E36 316 had a 1.8L in its early form, some E36 318s were 1.8L but later 318s were 1.9. I think most Z3 1.8's were 1.9. The 323s are factory detuned 2.5Ls, the M3s had 3.0L in '95 and 3.2L in '97 - '99 there were no '96 M3s to my knowledge, though there were a FEW '94s.
