nice work. make sure the trans fluid is approved by ZF

When Kriss last came over we did the tranny oil on mine. The filter hadn't been changed for a long time,so I wish I'd got to it earlier. The magnets were furry with particles and the filter had gold bits in it- the tranny was working fine except it had a slight hard down-shift (ie at nil-throttle). We cleaned it out, replaced the gasket, o-ring and filter and swapped the fluid (which was a mix of Mobil-1 synthetic ATF and Dexron) with Castrol TransMax Z which is the only synthetic that ZF approve in this box.
The previous Mobil synthetic semi-swap had smoothed the gear change as before that I thought the change was occasioanlly a little harsh- that was 20,000 km ago and the box hasn't missed a beat since then though I just noticed this slightly harder down-change so thought it was time to do it again. $120 worth of synthetic fluid later and it's all good. (It's a whole lot better than the $500 a 'specialist' BMW repairer in Sydney charged to swap out half the old Dexron and avoid the filter). As I had some left over so I did the power steering too- replaced the resovoir- it seemed to be leaking invisibly at the seam and they are under US$20. BIG thanks to Big Kriss for the Big help- she's running just fine now!!Nick
