    Default Newbie Questions - 525td

    Hi guys,

Great site, very helpful so far.

I've just picked up my first 5 series today, it's my second car and I'll be using it to run back and forward to work. But want to look after it.

It a '94 525td with 130k on the clock, rear is knocking a little which is just the shocks, other than that it a nice tight car and I am really pleased with it.

There's a couple of things I want to sort out, firstly there a brake indicator light on is this pad wear or fluid?

Also it seems to be ticking over a little high around 900rpm, is this easy to adjust?

I didn't get a handbook with the car, has anyone got a scanned version?

    All the best and thanks,

    J

do a search for the online manuals.

the brake pads have sensors on them, drivers front and pass rear, if the fluids low it will say low fluid.

    Good luck

i think the low fluid light is the same light as the handbrake, worn pads light is the round one with what looks like broken up brackets on either side.

if still unsure, get someone to push button on top of fluid resevoir while you watch dash, ignition on, make sure handbrake is off first, that will show which light is for low fluid level

    Thanks guys,

I've found a pdf of an owners manual, it's the worn pad indicator.

    Thanks again.

    You need brake pads.
