Too bad you didn't have a "bounce board" to highlight the lower valance abit.Thats the only thing seperating the shot from a contest winner.I always carried one of those silver window screens that protects your dash from the sun......the kind that has a wire perimeter and folds up into itself and used it to reflect bounced light.
It always helps to have a pretty assistant to hold it just so.
The leaves this time of year are incredible opportunities for "Kodak moments" with all the scenery and leaves turning into awesome colors.........it always seems I have a car on jackstands going through some heavy mods during this time of year......Arrrrrgh !!

I do have a bounce but that's not the issue here... the issue is that i did an overlay of 3 layers to get the soft tree line and dramatic colors, and the sequence of filters i use rely on bumping the contrast a lot, so darks get darker. That's actually contrasted brighter than it was originally, some photos are hard to do with my sequence... i would like to brighten it but it starts to get noisey. The original image is well exposed throughout.

I by NO means was nudging your work, mind you.......I still LOVE both shots. Now knowing the technique used I see your obsticle. Very dramatic no less.
I grew up using the Pentax MX slr's, never any high end Nikons,unfortunatly....but always did well in photo contests. I now have a Sony digital F717 that I'm trying to master. What are you using if you don't mind me asking ? ?

Yeah digital can be tricky compared to slide/prints, but it can be easier too. I am using a Canon 300D Digital SLR. That particular photo is with a 18 - 55 EF-S lens, though I prefer my 70-200 F4.0L USM lens, but i wanted wider here.
