That's what I hate about the US... criminals can actually sue the people they're committing a crime against!!!! Grrrrr
Parking for the night at my place... double lock, code, aftermarket alarm, fork club, remove radio face, lock glovebox, lock trunk (manual position)... finally... camp out by window with rifle and night-scope.
Dealership trick that my Mechanic told me about:
If you thump the car in a certain place on the front bumper or front guards, it sets off the crash-detector, and unlocks all the doors!! It also sets off the hazards, (and cuts off the fuel??) Probably not recommended tho.
Gone but NEVER forgotten. :'(
And then...
I was under the assumption that the car had to be moving or otherwise engaged for that to happen? It would make sense.Originally Posted by Nick.Hay

You know I had the opposite experience on my 525i. The car battery died and the car wouldn't open w/ the key? Is this some kinda BMW anti theft mechanism? So i called a locksmith and they couldn't break in through the window. the tried all these tools and it didn't work. But however the key opened the trunk and since i had an amp they jumped the battery through the big cable connecting my amp to the battery which gave some power so my autoalarm couldn't open the doors? You know what else is. My other 535i overheated in Hollywood on a Sat nite and i ended up leaving it on the side of a busy street Hollywood and Bronson and left the passenger window wide open till the next morning when i came w/ the tow truck and nothing was taken from the car? I was so worried that someone would break in w/ the window up? I can't believe i left the window open.
Apparently not...
She goes in to have the new Bilsteins fitted tomorrow, I'll clarify it with him then.

Have you ever seen the "emergency unlock procedure" outlined in the owners manual, and posted on the board?Originally Posted by InfernoM3
Here it is reprinted again:
Emergency Unlock Procedure due to electrical failure:
* insert key into passenger door lock
* lift and hold handle up while turning key to emergency unlock position until lock pin rises
* it may take more grunt to lift the door pin since there is no electrical assist
(sometimes you also may have to "pump" the handle several times while turning the key)
