It's been my experience that when you start a car the idle hovers a little over 1,000 rpms for a few minutes before it settles down to normal idle. My '90 535i 5sdp doesn't do this.
I started looking up parts and couldn't find a cold start idle valve, I did find an Idle Control Valve though. Is my Idle Control Valve the culprit?

not trying to be a smart ass, but the engine temp sensor is the water temp sensor right?Originally Posted by Bill R.
be 2 temperature sending units right by the thermostat housing. Some cars have 3... a blue one which goes to the DME computer which is the one you want.. a Black or brown one which goes to the temperature gauge in the dash.. this isn't the one that has an effect on how the engine runs.. You'll also find that the m30 doesn't really idle as fast on cold idle as a lot of other cars..

Local temp dropped from 80's down to 50s after Wilma. Then my car's cold idle goes bonkers till it's hot.
I can locate only two sending units via Bently and realoem:
The one in the radiator, and the one on top of the intake manifold.
Is that it?
Thanks
