Saving for an M5, do i get a 3.6 and go for reliability, if i can find one that hasnt been thrashed to within an inch of it's life, or should i get the 3.8, find a nice straight / clean car and risk it's engine being a future bill maker ???
Help is required, my head is at bursting point, it's not a question of budget! i want a reliable performance car!
Any one with real world experience out there?
I need info based on knowledge, not bias!
Please help, looking forward to your replies.

Hi Paul, in this thread they are referring to a straight 6 540??? thats a different animal than the V-8 bred vehicle. The 6 is going to out corner, out handle and with a stick out run the V8 automatic car. That thread differs as to a V8 and a 6 but basicly says the 6 is more fun. I never heard of a 4.0 litre 6 but have heard of a 3.0 6 cylinder.

no they are referring to the 540i v8 6 speed manual, but given extremely fast roads i think both 6s would have it over a STANDARD 540 6 speed not necessarilty a M540 or similar, after all the 3.8 is 250 kw with brakes etc to match.....
