    '94 530i 5-speed.

80 mile daily commute. I try to be good and drive slowly, but after work, I just want to get home. So, I put on my autobahn hat and go (80+++mph). At this speed, no AC, 22.8mpg. AC on, same speed 21.6 mpg.

If driving at the speed of traffic (75mph) I get 23.4 mpg with no AC. AC on at same speed 24mpg.

Not too bad for a heavy car with a Nikasil block. No simptoms yet after 120K miles, and thourough intake gasket service from Nikolasmotorsport.

    so far so good.

This weekend I did a 400-mile, 98% freeway trip and managed an indicated 25.6 mpg on the computer and a calculated mileage (from mileage vs. gallons added) of 26.2! Not bad for a 125k mile M60 with leaking intake gaskets.

Averaged 70-75mph, usually in cruise, tires aired up to 35psi cold. A/C was ran for about half of the trip.

Around town I'm lucky to get 17-18.

I get 25mpg Highway and 18mpg combined city highway, when I drive reasonably nice. But when I drive it hard I get about 16mpg on average. It's all in how heavy your foot is!

    A Bimmer Nut for sure: '04 530im (current daily driver), '97 m3, '98 323is, '99 Z3, '01 740iL, '06 330cicm zhp, '02 R1150R, '69 r60, Owner/Operator of www.Bimmer.info and www.BimmerNut.com
And I still maintain: '90 535im (sold to daughters best friend, one of my favorite bimmers), '92 525im (daughters other best friend now drives this one).

I'm getting 8 litres per 100 km (mixed driving but no attempt at frugality ) which, if my maths is right equates to about 29.5 miles per US gallon.
Admittedly that is out of an M20, but I think that is pretty good !

But aren't we missing something here ?

Default I took off work early yesterday (came in at 5:30, left at 2)...

...the wife, tot, and I went to Greensboro and then on to VIR, then back to Greensboro, then back home, to finalize the Fun Rally route for O'Fest. We had under 1/2 tank when we left here, went all the way up and back to Greensboro, filled up there with a tank of premium (heck, the club pays for setup mileage, $55.99 ouch!!), and averaged 27.7 from Greensboro back to Apex at 63/55 and 72/65 averages. I have been hearing some pinging in the car for a while, and it was almost immediate that it went away with the 93. We see 22 mpg city, 27-28 highway every trip.
