Is there a way to cover the gap around my auto shifter?

I tried a search and couldn't find anything. I would like to install the pistol grip sifter, but would also like to somehow cove the gap around the shifter. I feel like I'm looking into my transmission right now. Check out this 740's shifter in this ebay link. It has a nice cover around it. Anyone do this on an automatic?

The thing breaks and then you're looking into the inner workings... BMA has the part, it was like $4 or something.

Remove the shift knob. Then you have to remove the cover, it lifts up from the front (near the radio) - just make sure you get under the whole plastic piece, not just under the wood trim. Then it slides out towards the front. I had a bear of a time getting this out, but eventually got it. You need the "sliding piece" #11 in the picture. It just works like a roll-top desk.



You can probably search for some better instructions - but it's an easy fix.

I just picked it up at the dealer. $12! Yikes! Oh well. Mine broke off so I will have to pull it out with needle nose pliers or tweezers. Shouldn't be too hard.

Mbo, pull out the woodgrain trim panel and install it that way. Takes two seconds. The unfortunate thing about the accordian slider is that its poorly made and they don't last very long. You might want to return that part and do as Don Gale: http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_13.htm

just replaced mine. It was kinda of a bitch. And to top it off I thought it was going to break during the install. Ended up working except I broke one of the plastic tabs so now I need some super glus to hold the piece down on the wood grain.
