Any suggestions about what to look for when purchasing an e34?

    Read this:

At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man...buy a beater as your first car. Get all of the "beating" out of the system, crash it (hey, it's just what teenage drivers do...everyone did it, some of us multiple times). Then buy an E34.

I had a beater first, crashed it, then at a later date, crashed my first e34.

    All the best

I drove a truck as my first car. Crashed the hell out of that thing, man, many times I wouldn't say I was a bad driver, I was just careless. I left it in primer so it was easier to fix.

Hate to tell you this Whit, but compared to what many teenagers in Oz are driving thse days, an E34 is a beater.
IMHO it is just a safer beater so that you survive the crash(es).
Go for a smaller engine, though.
Then the crash might not be so severe.

Hot damn! I knew all of you guys over there were rich! The 1988 750iL cost $200k+ Aus when new and now they're beaters.

If any of my Australian brothers over there have any money sitting around that you're not using, please send it to me. I can put it to good use!

My first car was 1977 Caprice classic with a white vinyl top and white walls. A tank. Never crashed it though. Would have taken a collision with a mac truck to total it. Sold it for $400 dollars after driving it for 5 years. Moved on to a Taurus then an accord. Now that I found the E34, I can't imagine driving anything else.

My issue is only this...Don't by the E34 and tack it up with 19" rims, neon or any of that other namby pamby bling bling crap. This is a real car for BMW fanatics I mean enthusiasts. Comprende?
