Just a tip: If you have a V8 E34 (probably E31, E32 and E38 as well), don't buy a reman'd MAF from AutoZone (CarDone).
They listed this MAF as fitting my car, but it quite obviously does not It's almost 2" smaller in diameter than my MAF.
Not even close to the same size. So now I have to find a place that will have a MAF for my car. Any suggestions outside of the dealer?

I have 4 used ones here. All 4 are from 1988 E32 750iL and look like this.(pic from autohausaz.com, not original pics from actual parts)
Location: Tokyo Japan.
2 I bought for my stock last year from a German used parts dealer, these are from a car built 07/1988, the other 2 are from a parts 750iL from built year 10/1988 I bought here in Japan some months ago. This car has around 190.000 km (not miles) on the clock.
I have never tested them, just keep them on stock.
I am also not sure if they are identical to a V8 M60 or M62 engine MAF. Check that out on the realoem parts catalog with the cross reference key there.
If you are interested, make me an offer.

Thanks for the offer, unfortunately that won't fit either.Originally Posted by shogun

It's a pity, as the new ones or remanufactred ones are really expensive

What wears out in a MAF? the wire can break, I know that... surely it doesn't 'go off' (perhasp it can get dirty, but with a lot of TLC it sould be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or some kind of CFC... TetroHydroChloride I think its called... ? GP

When the air-mass sensor is working normal, the hot wire does not glow. To burn off any deposits and dirt, the control system will heat the wire red hot to 1000 degrees Celsius (1800 F) for about 1 second, after you shut off your engine. This is the cleaning process and only performed if the engine is revved up to at least 2000 rpm. So starting your engine, let it idle for a certain time and shut off means no hot wire cleaning.
