Popping noise coming from Steering Fluid Reservoir

Getting a clicking noise or popping may be better description from the steering fluid reservior it would appear. When car is idle and continues for a minute or two after ignition turned off. Initially thought it was coming from rad but appears to be the reservoir. Any ideas ? Will change the fluid at the weekend as it hasn't been done for a couple of years but open to suggestions. Level of fluid is fine. Cheers.

1995 E34 M50 (525i SE). No self leveling suspension to my knowledge.
