you need the complete wire system (bowden cable), see these 3 pics, one is pull out by the seat, the other one is pushed in by the seat.
Or go in ta motorbike shop and by the single parts to solder the end piece onto the bowden cable, they have bowden cable by the yard.

check the parts based on your VIN, I am not sure if you have this system

From your link, it appears that the bolt that goes in the seat rail to fasten the wire is NLA. I will look in a junkyard for this part.

What I am interested in knowing, is the mechanism which holds the wire tight (and subsequently moves the adjuster) inside the black wheel on the floor or is it in the b-pillar adjusting device?

Is it part no. 9 in the b-pillar or is it part no. 17 on the floor, from your link?

The black wheel block is mounted on the floor. If you find an E34 at the breakers you will be able to see how it all works when you pry the small retaining clips out.
