m62 to m60 conversion?

Has anyone heard of taking an m62 motor, retrofiting the m60 electronics and controls, and re-installing in an e34?

I'm not sure it's even possible, but one of my M3 friends tells me they do it all time with the 95-97 cars. The start with a 95 M3 w/OBD I and get a donor OBD II engine from a wrecked 96 or 97 M3. After retrofitting with the 95 OBD I electronics & controls the horsepower is up from 240 stock to something like 280 or 290 hp. This is due in part to the increased displacement (3.0 to 3.2) but primarily because the OBD II is so "stopped up" in his words. I might normally think is "urban legend" but the source is a BMW factory mechanic and hard core enthusiast.

Got me thinking about the 5er's. There are getting to be a lot of high mileage e34 540's, and plenty of wrecked e39 540's. Since the 4.0 liter M60 and 4.4 liter M62 are rated at the same HP, what if the converstion yielded the same kind of gains as the M3's. 325 hp with a stock motor, plus the added torque? Sweet!!

A guy on Bimmerforums.com named Jimmyz2 did a M62 swap. I am pretty sure he did an OBDI retrofit because he lives in California. He also did a supercharger. I am pretty sure he went with OBDI because it's illegal to fit an OBDII in an OBDI production car, I believe.
