Default just replaced my hood & trunk struts, WOW What a difference.....

i have been having to lift the trunk the entire way to the top. now i just hit the button & it opens all by itself.
i also will not get hit in the back of my head any more either.

    Thinking about change mine too.

BTW, how much did you pay for the struts? And, where did you get them?

I remember my 1984 733i. Owning that car and this one were 2 different experiences. Washing and detailling constituted the only work I did on that car. I remember using an old golf club to keep the hood up. I credit my brother (Also an owner of a E34) and this board for showing me how to DIY in many cases on this car.

I use a hockey stick on mine to keep it from closing on me.

I'd replace them but I don't think that will keep me from getting hit in the back of the head, I'm still married

How did you manage to reach around and snap the trunk struts out?

Default i laid in the trunk, with a sharp pointy tool pushed the clip up & pulled off...

the strut. the hard part was the carpet. it only took me about 1 minute each.
make sure you have something or someone holding the trunk open when you do this. my wife said when i pulled off the strut the trunk lid got heavy enough to drop quickly.

I replaced both my hood (bonnet in England!) gas struts as it nearly came down on me on a windy day.

Cost was £18.43 each from the dealer (was expecting more), but I considered it a safety issue anyway.

    Tim,

Is it the GAS PRESSURIZED SPRING/TRUNK LID SHOCK with part number 51248110327 that you replaced?

My trunk doesn't lift on its own, so I'm assuming this is what I need... I would get the parts from the dealer, but I see BMA has one made by MEYLE for $20 and one made by SACHS for $27. Thanks in advance...
