    Default Re: 235-50-16's

I just bought a set of 16's with used tires on them (225-50-16) and am looking to replace them with something a little closer to the stock 225-60-15 outer diameter.

There's a very limited selection of brands for 235-50-16, most of the tires with good ratings on www.tirerack surveys make a jump from 225-50-16 directly to 245-50-16 as the next available size. There are a few in the 55 profile series but not sure about them. 245-50-16 is very close to the original 225-60-15 o.d., within a few 1/100's inch. & they fit e32's on 7.5 & 8" 16's without rubbing so would assume they also fit an e34.

Let me know what you find in a 235-50-16

    Default tahrs

I'm running 225/55/r16s on E31 turbines. Micah running something like 245/45 or 50s/r16 on his turbines. My track tires are 225/50s and I concur they look a little short. They do work better on the track as they have less sidewall.

Currently, I'm running the old model Yoko AVS DB2 in the 55 series and I have mixed thoughts about them. The size itself is really good - looks good and fits well. I'm not as sold on the tire really - it's not been as quiet as I would have hoped especially as it's worn. Not "loud" per se. Also, the they have worn pretty fast (20k miles and very close to the wear bars).

Uh..is this helping? I'm not sure. I plan to buy the same 225/55 in the next tire for street use but likely go to a wider tire or maybe even 17's for track use.

Default I was planning on going with the yoko avs db also but so many of you guys are saying-

that they aren't quiet anymore and the wear isn't that great... Makes me wonder if I should stick with pilots instead...

You're still on a stock rim size, right? Do you want all seasons or summer tahrs?

I think you'll be hard pressed to go wrong with the Michelins. My alignment shop basically swears by anything Michelin, Bridgestone or Toyo. They hate Dunlops (supposedly lots of out of round & balance issues). But I had 15" Dunlop SP5000's and loved them. My buddy's got them on his Subaru Outback and loves them too. Good rain tire, quiet and affordable. People raved about them on the board a couple years ago...go figure. I think you have a lot of really good, reasonable options in the 225/65/15 category.

DB2s strike me as an "aggressive all season" setup and in your area I might just go with a full summer tire vs. them. Also, not sure if you really get the value of them with a 15" setup - I'd be more inclined to go that way if you had a +1 or +2 setup.

    oh..sheesh...ranting and raving again...sorry.
