Has anybody carried an extra load on the top of their car with a roof rack or an enclosed unit? Any recommendations welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Peter; will look into the Yakima.
I like Thule gear, the 1600 seen here is perfect for me. Holds 4 carry-golf bags... or pack and play, stroller, four shotguns, as seen here on my annual quail voyage to south Texas with wifey, kiddo, and labrador. No difference in mileage either. 320 miles (austin to Rachal) avg 80 mph the whole way I avg'd 24mph.
Thule 1600 Evolution: shorter, stocky, but best aerodynamics, about $300 at REI.
This stays in your rails all the time if you have a wagon...otherwise you buy the 962 footpack, which is what you would need if you have the sedan

got to http://www.martyscycle.com/ and email him for his modified footpack procedure for the Thule....for those with Tourings. I swear by it as you can see, I back under it, crank it down, snap and go with all my gear. Literally takes five minutes to load up windsurfers. For anyone that's gone windsurfing, that's a 25 minute net savings. Best of luck, geoffrey
