Actually, it's supposed to help smooth out the idle on M30's, and BMW made a kit w/ a P/N for it in the 80's. 20hp? I dunno about that. But if it's what I'm thinking it is (aka - a big ass resistor), then it's been discussed.

Take a close look at what's stuck in the end of the plug.
    Yep, it's a resistor!

I work for an electronics manufacturer. We buy about a dozen for one cent.

This just changes the resistance value the ECU sees and as a result tricks the ECU into supplying more fuel by the look of it.
Did they claim an improvement in gas mileage too.... didn't think so!

I'm assuming one of the reasons M30's idle a little rough once warmed up is due to a lean idle mixture. Can anyone confirm this?
Mine runs smooth until it warms up and then develops a slight 'fluff' similar to tight valve clearances or even a burnt valve.

You want pictures of Yugos? I can take thousands of them! When my country was part of Yugoslavia (until the war in 1990.), Yugo was the national car.

Supposedly as an emissions control method. I have to say that it works pretty well -- my 15+ year old car still has them fooled over at the local Ohio EPA...sucker turns numbers that are better than much newer cars.
