    Default Truth About Timing Chains/Belts?

    Whats the truth about my 95 525i's timing chain/belt? I have heard that its a belt and Ive been told its a chain? Do they need to be replaced? I have been told yes replace them at 80K and I have been told that you dont need to ever replace them? School me on this! Thanks!

    Chain on that car. Should last forever, not an interval service item.

    Default Might last "forever" on an automatic, but not a 5-speed...

    If it's anything like the chain on my M42 318is, which has about a 100k-125k mile lifespan on chain/tensioners. On that one, all tensioners, guides, and sprockets need refreshing about that time. They get really noisy, and you risk jumping a sprocket and crashing the pistons.
