5sp conversion time
So my transmission that Ive been driving in limp mode for about a few months now finally died. Its the GM A4S270/310R 4-gear slushbox. Luckily, I made it to the local specialist (reverse is officially gone) lol. He said they would look for used and rebuilts and give me prices. Any advice on what I should do or anyone have one of these for sale? I am not going to do a manual conversion because I dont want anymore unforeseen problems down the road. What kind of pricing should I expect? Ironically, I am kind of happy that my car in is the shop getting fixed instead of only driving 60mph everywhere. Thanks

Given the amount of time that you drove it, there is probably internal hard part damage. You are beyond just a standard rebuild. I would ballpark you at the $2k mark - parts and labor.

1995 and transmition died it scares me as i got 89
why did you drive it in limp mode for months? were you financially incapable of dealing with the problem at the time? it could have been something moderatly simple at the point, but as was mentioned, by now, the hard parts are probably shot and a rebuild might not even be possible. that aside, do a 5spd conversion for sure![]()
It needed to be rebuilt when it was flushed because of all the scraps at the bottom of the pan. My mechanic quoted "its a miracle that it even goes into gear." Ive been financially incapable, sick of working on my car, getting raped with schoolwork, girlfriend, work 22 hours on weekend, and I knew it needed a new transmission the whole time Ive been driving it.

lol, i know the feeling. no worries. take regal's advice and just put a used one in. someplace like www.theeurodepot.com can sell you one and ship it pretty cheaply.
if life's a bit of a bitch right now then thats probably your best solution

pay a couple computer geek friends in memory chips or beer (if their daring) and have a weekend party, you should be able to R&R one of these in less than 4 hours with NO experience. as long as you have ramps and a floor jack and some basic tooling.
Good luck man!
