    Default URGENT Transmission Questions...

Hey guys, I've got some questions.

    1) Where can I find a Part Number or some sort of identifying mark on the transmission? I'll explain why I need this later, I just would like to know where to find it.

    2) Anyone know of a decent way to ship a transmission across the country?

    3) Are there any other transmissions that will bolt up to the E34 engines? (Aside from another E34, i mean like E36's or anything)

    Thanks guys,
    Jason.

P.S. Still a few things for sale, if you need any little knick-knacks lemme know!

What car are you talking about. I know that the tranny from an e36 M50 will fit onto the M50 in an E34. I know that you can ship a manual tranny for about $70 via UPS, just sent one out last week actually, Just make sure you reinforce the hell out of the box, and you drain the fluid. As for automatic, depends on how much they weigh, you can send up to 150lbs via UPS

ditto on the m50, but the computer programing changes between vanos and non vanos, the only other difference is the output flange needs to be swapped on from the e34, e34/32 m30s the easy way to id is by the selector switch on the consol, the early one is A S M and the later one has A M, they are not interchangable

I have my E34 M5 (S38B36) and there is SOME speculation that the tranny that is coupled to that engine may not be the factory transmission. (some of the transmission mounts seem to be 'off') and i'm not sure if it was perhaps just a weird fit or if perhaps the transmission was out of another car. I thought I heard a rumor that the E36 m3 tranny would fit, but i'm not sure.

I am about positive that the tranny from an e36 M3 is not compatible with an e34 M5. The M3 is based off of the M50 block and the M5 is based off of the M30 block. I know that the M5 clutch can be put onto any M50 based motor, but im pretty sure that the same doesn't apply to the transmission

Im not positive, but i think that has to do with automatic transmission and I try to stay as far away from those as possible, so I couldn't help you with that

yeah. i'm definately looking at a 5spd. See, i'm just trying to find out if the transmission from my M5 is ACTUALLY the standard transmission or if it was swapped out and replaced with whatever is in there.
