Has this ever happend to anybody? Snakeyes and I were rather amused when I pulled it out of the tank today, Even tho I have to buy a new one, I could not help but giggle
OH, and if anyone is happening to be parting out a E34 witha M50 and has a fuel pump that is in better working condition as mine, I would love to buy it off you right now ;)

some dude last year had a pump that looked like this and had it rebuilt but it looked the same after (busted) and couldnt understand why it didnt work...

Damn! Never seen that before- did it actually explode with fire or just burst from pressure or what?

those old style pumps do that, changed many like that it just breaks open and pukes all of the pressure into the tank
Well we never *heard* the boom... atleast not that we remember :P I never knew they could build up THAT much presure tho.
I belive they were $247, there was one "pulled" one on Ebay buy it now from Vines for $50 but he ran out, all he has now is new ones for $275. I ave a good feeling someone here might have one for me tho :) If not there is a place in town I can do for $125

It happened to my pump as well (1990 535i). No pics of the split, but I was also quite amused at the way the top popped off the canister. I was lucky enough to score a new pump at BMA during a sale for $200.
LOL, Well we thought it may have been caused by the well over 110mph+ sprint Snakeyes and I had going up Hwy 249 in Houston to a friends party, [had quite a few things go wrong after the idler pully messed up a few belts :P] but i ALMOST feel better seeing that others have seen it before.
Guess there is a first time for everything :P
Well it is ALMOST reasuring that it has happend to other people, atleast i know now i didnt do anything excessively evil to the car to cause it :P

I just replaced mine, suspecting that it is my problem. I open a topic about it ( http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=27089 ), but I found out the source of my problem just yesterday. It is unbelievable ..... anyway it is not the pump. I will post the solution soon (even with a pic.)
