Don't think the filter has a drainback valve. However, I believe there is one in teh filter housing assembly.

I only know of the one in V8... Our E34 has a valve built in right into the filter. They later changed that in later model V8... with a black plastic valve... that can be retrofitted into early V8 engine... you simply push it in and use the later model filters.
Allerston engine use spin on filters... no alternative. Install a oil pressure gauge to read the actual pressur and then decide what you want to do.
the m20 uses a spin on filter. no filter housing here.
Exactly!...the M20 uses a spin on filter and the air would be puhed out after installation and remain filled with oil until it is replaced....Remember the oil running down your arm when you take those off?Quote:
