Round #283: Name that (broken) door part!

Hello all, I am overseas right now, and my brother is trying to fix the driver-side (left) door handle on my E34! It opens from the outside, but does NOT open from the inside. Here is the photo he sent me:

Does anyone recognize what part this is? I have never personally worked on the door before, so I'm at a loss here. Is this piece part of #23 on the BMW diagram? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...1&fg=40&hl=109

yes - that piece has broken off from the door handle. it attaches to the cable with the hook at the end.

check picture#8 here.

happy to help - i so very nearly did the same thing.

i think it would be easiest to replace the whole handle but i'm not sure.
