V8 Smoking Tail pipes...
Hey guys... I want to run this by you so maybe some of you know the answer to this delimma.... I got a 540i. The car seems to smoke alot more than usual... white smoke. At first, I thought it was because of short trips and lots of condensation in the exhaust system.
But tonite... 26 degree... and about 5 miles of driving and park in my driveway, the car smoked like crazy... sort of like steam plant. I am losing some coolant... about a reservoir per 3 weeks but I thought that leak is because of that infamous pipe by the ICV... I do see evidence of coolant in that area underneath the car.
Still, the car smoked! Is this a sign of something else is bad? A bad headgasket is unlikely... so what else could it be? No oil loss. Maybe bad ICV? What do you think? Winifred? BillR?

Im not Winfred or Bill R but I saw them on TV once...being thats said...
good luck.

are there ant signs of coolant ib oil or visa versa...5 miles isnt enough unless its stop start to dry out the exhaust
-
No... just changed oil recently... no coolant in oil nor vice versa. I am thinking I need to take a long drive to dry out the exhaust system... to see if it still smokes afterward

sure its a leak into the exhaust and not the back of the bypass tube?
shoot I wasnt gonna answer.

In cold weather, mine blows white smoke out the tailpipe at red lights for about a half an hour before it stops. Have you done the handkerchief test?
