I have a nice clean tweaked 90 535 5 speed. Today I drove a 91 M5. I was not that impressed. What’s up! What should the performance differences be between these two? My 535 seems smoother and almost as quick. Mine is clean and the M5 needed some work.

You need to get to know M5 a little better. Above 4000rpm M5 is much, much faster. I used to have 535 5 speed. Mine (M5) is faster than my neighbours new G35 and pulled away from 2001 corvette on sunset at palisades. Dont know any non turbo car that will be faster than M5. '90 535 5 speed with JC chip was not faster that V8 mustang.

Find a properly tuned M5 and drive that, then I want to hear if you think it's a dog. Then put my M5 chip in it, and take it for another spin. Hot dawg! :D

P.S. you obviously haven't drivin a good example of an M5.

There is almost a 2 second difference in quarter mile times between the two cars (mid 15s vs high? 13s). I'd think you should be able to feel that.

Thanks all. I am running Marks chip in my 535 and love it. This car is a daily driver with mostly freeway driving. The 535 runs strong & smooth. I sure feels quick but maybe not as quick as it really is. But I sure like it. The M5 I drove for only a short time. Maybe as someone said I need more time behind the wheel. The big difference was it was not as smooth at. Is the M5 motor as smooth running motor as the 535?

I didnt mean all m5 are dogs i meant that particular m5 is a dog.you surely could tell the difference that 100 hp givesn and i imagine an good m5 would be very nice to drive even out of the poewer band.....
