Eric on roadfly posted this interesting link. Includes stats for E12, E28 and E34.
click here for year by year details. (http://eagle1.american.edu/~ec9672a/BMW%20Production%20Numbers.htm)

GREAT info!

If these are total worldwide production numbers: it's interesting to me to note how the baby six sold a lot better on the world market (hence they built more -- think that logic works in this case) than the BIG sixes.

I assume that it has some relation with the individual taxes on engine volume in each country.
BMW for example usually produced for Italy smaller engines with higher output than sold in other countries. Sometimes these engines were only produced for the Italian market.

The E34 production numbers are incorrect. Eric's stats show 58 535i's were produced in 1992, and 0 in 1993. There are probably more than 58 535i owner's on this board, and I know there are 1993 model year 535i's (a friend of mine owns one).

I don't know the source of these figures but someone on Roadfly posted this and I saved it.
U.S. Import E34 535i 5:
1989 1225
1990 2283
1991 541
1992 714
1993 75
=4838 total

My 1993 535i was, of course, made in 1992 (October, actually). I don't think I've seen very many '93s on this board - a ton of earlier models...

I didn't know my car was so rare. :D

Hiya Brother! I'm driving a '93 535i as well. I wonder how many of those 58 were 5-speeds like mine...

How big do they make safety-deposit boxes?

might also add to the confusion, if that statistics are right (there are many out there, depending on what book one has at hand).
I also found out that it is counted different in the countries. Some countries count the first year of registration, not the month/year they were built, and not the model year. Others count by date of import data, cause that are the only true figures they have.
So, it is just a bit confusing.
For me it is important when the car was built, not registered, imported, or model year. My car was produced November 17, 1988. First registration in Japan was December 1989.
So do I have a 1990 model? ;)

Either way whoever tabulated that for the E34's I'd say it's suspect. In my earlier post it should have read "U.S. Import E34 535i 5 speed Maunal:" -And yes, 1993 E34 535im's are rare cars in the US.
