Looks tight. What's the model? How does it sound?

Lol - I love the guestbook entries on your page - "your car looks like it's owned by an African American with Chinese tendencies"....hehe.

best, whit

haha.. that's my buddy tommo. i'm gonna have to give him a smack.

it's dxz845mc... a great little unit.. sounds excellent, has tons of features.. and most importantly the the EQs are very sensitive, you can tune any track perfectly.. quite happy with it :)

A ton of Clarion decks have this feature - the 'higher end' ones typically allow you to make your own colors with RGB values. Doesn't matter on this one though, because 'Warm Amber' is a dead-on perfect match. :)

well.. i bought it right when it came out.. was about 500US i got it for less though.. if you look online there are some ridiculous prices on it.. 250US and stuff like that.. i'm not sure how reputable the sellers are though

it has 4 pre-amps..
1 front
1 rear
1 sub
1 zone-2 (if you want to have 2 different audio sources playing simultaneously.. ie: you want audio in the front and have audio from a movie (using aux line-in function) playing for the rear passengers. or even just to have different music in the front and back
2 volts per out i think

I agree that replacing the stock unit can screw around with the asthetics and anyone who thinks 'bling' suits E34's is kidding themselves and should buy a rice burner instead! :p

That aside this is the Clarion DRZ9255 (Clarion HX-D2 in Australia) head unit I'm thinking about but the cost is rather steep to say the least. Pre-outs only, no built in amplification. If you look at the fluro display you'll see the character style and dot pitch almost exactly match the E34's existing head unit & OBC's display, except for the colour of course. An appropriate coloured (mandarin :D) gel filter behind the display window would probably fix this though. The other option is one of the Nakamichi units which really look like they are made to fit an E34. Though I've read some reports re. the Naka's concerning reliability.

http://www.clarion.com/usa/products/images/large/DRZ9255_l.jpg

Key Features:

* Dual 24-Bit/96kHz Sampling DACs and DSP
* Burr-Brown DACs
* Plays CD-R and CD-RWs
* Built-In 4-Way Crossovers (Subwoofer/Low/Mid/High)
* 5-Band Parametric Equalizer
* Digital Time Alignment for Each Line Level Output
* 4V/8-Channel Gold-Plated Line Level Outputs (for SW/L/M/H or Front 2-Way/Rear/SW) With OFC Cables
* Copper-Plated Chassis
* DC /DC Converter
* CeNET Control of Optional TV Tuner, DVD Changer and 6-Disc CD Changer
* Multi-Changer Control
* Two 2-Channel Aux. Inputs
* Fiber Optic Input/Output
* Vacuum Florescent Display
* IR Remote Control
* Line Level Output Only (Requires External Amplifier)
* Radio Tuner With 18FM/6AM Presets
* Ultra Precise Rotary Volume Control
* Zinc Die-Cast Faceplate

... and no, it doesn't play MP3's. I think the reasoning behind this is that if you are going to go to the expense of 24bit/96khz convertors, digial crossover etc. and then use compressed 128kb MP3's as source material.... ;)

i bought a Clarion DXZ535 especially because of the color match to the rest of the car! the mandarin color is not perfect, but it's close... you can only adjust green + red, there's no blue color channel so the choices are limited...

it's a good unit, but I find the Clarion user interface is poor compared to Pioneer's... but the aluminium faceplate definately feels weighty and of high quality, unlike the cheap crappy plastic you find on most head units, with stupid silver bits and shiny chrome knobs!

it's a nice unit.. and worthwhile only if your wiring, power, amps, and speakers are on par with it
