Hi all. Have posted a few weeks back re the hesitation/drop in idle to near-stall of my matic 89 525i (75k miles run), when shifting from N to D, which I began experiencing after three weeks' non-use. Still having problem, despite going on long drive, changing plugs, air filter, oil and oil filter, idle regulating valve (mechanic assures me airflow meter ok--said he repaired it), then just this weekend, transmission pulled down and he changed outer disks and 2nd gear disk (?) plus ATF. Also been much valve adjustments and mucking about. Now, mech says may have to change piston rings since he suspects pressure is off. Any ideas on what else I can do, short of opening engine up? Or should I just go to the dealer for the diagnostic?
