Take your car back to the dealership I think they had a recall... your hood opens the wrong way.

Funny, the little diagram of a car with an open door doesn't look like a Touring...

and after the long-winded discussion on oils a few days back, 0W-40 is the way to go...

Ha, ha, ha....funny stuff Bill, throw 2 more quarts in her for the 525. Yup, 7 quarts. The 318iS takes 5, the M5 takes 6, the 525 takes 7. I would have to buy 3 cases for 2 oil changes each, but they all take different weights. I'm seeing where the M54 is supposed to be using 5w30 in Mobil 1 though, now the problem is, the 5w30 Mobil 1 isn't supposed to be as good as the 0w40 Mobil 1. I'm needing more information on the TU M54 engine needs. They have changed something in the Vanos that the M52 engines were having problems with and I don't know if the oil is a factor or not.

It was right here on the 3 forum along with your mudflap install...
Approved oils for the m52TU,M54 etc (http://www.bimmernut.com/%7Ebillr/images/m52tuSpecialOils.pdf)
Actually mine takes 7 also, but I didn't want to crowd 7 quarts up there for the photo....Next change now is indicated at 15,575 miles.... I don't think i'll wait that long

Thanks Bill, I remember seeing it now. Too much information bouncing back and forth looking at this and that.

New question, Does the EBA give meaning to service codes, as in the 10 digit code the dealer uses to document what was done? Do you know where these codes are located if not?

Lori is going to drive the 318iS for the next few days, she'll really appreciate the 525 when she gets it back. =) It's down at the BMW body shop now, they expect it to be back together next week. It will get a hood, left fender, xenon light ($1200) bumper cover, fender liner, front support and possibly inner fender. And she said the headlight was just pushed in a little....=) Glad she's ok...she was mostly mad about the deer slobbering all over her windshield....=)

Thanks Bill,

I just did an oil change in the beater '99 Kia... $2 for the oil filter, and $4 for a 5-quart jug of 5-30 at Wally World.

Costs less for a full oil change than my buddy pays for a quart of oil for his M3...!

That Mobil 1 sure is expensive... I bought a 1 liter top-up container yesterday, Mobil Super S fully synthetic was $11.95, and Mobil 1 was $19.95.

I'm sure it is better, but is it nearly TWICE as good as regular fully-synthetic???

Normal price around here is $4.74 U.S. & I buy it on sale for $4 regularly. $19.95 Aus is $15.26 U.S. so you are paying 3 times what we pay.

but is their income 3x as much? thats the question we should be asking.

Paul and I are in New Zealand, so $19.95 for 1 liter of Mobil 1 is USD$14.21. So an oil change of 5.75 liters with Mobil 1 would cost about USD$70 for a 535i (it's slightly cheaper if you buy a 4 liter container).

If only we had Bush to attack a few small countries and keep our oil cheap...

632 Regal, unfortunatley we don't earn 3x as much as Americans, in fact our incomes are less. I work with a chef that has just immigrated, and he earns less here than he did in the states. I think our median income is something like $30k, tax is between 25% and 39% depending on income level, and everything we buy is subject to 12.5% sales tax... The joys of a welfare state!

I've often thought that New Zealand might be a nice place to live in my old age but you've shattered that dream. I'll stick with a 2 week motorcycle trip as I think our 6% sales tax is high & $4.75 a qt is pricey.
