Trip computer code

I just bought my first bmw, 91 525i, and was wondering if ne one knew how to find out the trip computer code and also what it is for. The car did not come with the manual and i even had to pay 25 bucks just for the code on the radio at the local dealer.

the obc code is an immobiliser,don forget it if you set it!
