View Full Version : 17" rims with BavAuto springs and Boge shocks versus Sachs kit - Ride quality??

I'm looking to lower my 535iA slightly. Approx 1.5" at the front and maybe 1" at the rear and fit 17" rims. I'm trying to keep the ride reasonably comfortable. (Non teeth rattling!) I was considering either BavAuto springs (with the standard Boge shocks) or possibly a Sachs kit. What can I expect from either of the above?

Cheers.

if u buy shocks, buy bilstiens.
the bavauto springs are a waste.

teh sacks kit isn't bad at all with the 17's i have
now, but to make it even better, all you
have to do is run 17" all season tires.
they have a softer sidewall than teh summer
tires i run...

you have to ask yourself why are you
going to 17's?
for more looks, more grip, more what?

there are certain styles of wheels that look
bigger than they really are, so u could get
16's that look more like 17 to help with
ride quality...

i have a 90 535ia with bilstien hd and oem springs.
with 16" e39 wheels...

the car is very very smooth over bumps and even
handles fairly well. not as well as my 535im with sachs
and 17" 235/255 rubber, but well enough =]

I highly recommend a spring set from a little known company Vogtland, and the factory Boge strut inserts and rear shocks. I have this set-up installed in my 1990 535im and have found it to be superior to every other lowering-spring I've tried in the past. Lowering amounts are 1.4 inches front and .8 inches rear. I think the minimal lowering in the rear is the best feature as these cars are known for camber issues if lowered excessively. Hope this helps.

with mtech springs/shocks,and 235/45/17s the ride is ok but expansion joints and the likes are harsh.......
