Hello,I'm new here.I have a 1995 525IT which needs new rear struts.I can't figure out how to acess the top mounts. The factory manual says to remove the rear side seat cushion which I have done but I still can't get to the top 3 nuts. The rear seat belt retractor appears to be mounted above the strut mount. How does the trim come off to access the strut? Thanks.

I have photos of when I replaced the struts on my E34 sedan. Maybe they will help.
I can email some of them to you if you like.

the nuts are under the rear shelp, I just lifted it up and loosened them, someone mentioned that the shelf easily slides right out :(

FWIW,
The somewhat raw photos of the 525i Sedan rear arrangement can be found at

It sounds like it's alot easier on the Touring model!

Thanks for pics and info. The touring is not the same as a sedan so there is no rear shelf to remove. The seat backs recline so there is no need to take the seat out. I'm guessing there are some hidden clips or something holding the trim on the strut tower.I'm afraid if I pull on something too hard the trim will break, not come loose.I can take a pic but don't know how to post it.
